• The Toyota Crown Estate is the fourth model in the Crown lineup, positioned between an SUV and a wagon.
  • Available in hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants, the PHEV offers 302 hp and 89 km (55 miles) of EV range.
  • Japan-exclusive accessories include a pull-out deck chair, a soft luggage mat, and an optional Modellista body kit.

Toyota has launched the Crown Estate in Japan, completing the Crown lineup alongside the Crossover, Sport, and Sedan models in the home market. The JDM Toyota Crown Estate is the identical twin to the North American Crown Signia but offers exclusive features tailored for the Japanese market.

JDM Toyota Crown Estate Vs Crown Signia

The most notable difference is that the Crown Estate is available with hybrid electric (HEV) and plug-in (PHEV) powertrains. Both variants use a 2.5-litre gasoline engine with dual electric motors and all-wheel drive (E-Four). The PHEV variant (sourced from the RAV4) delivers a combined output of 302 hp and an 89 km (55 miles) all-electric range, thanks to a 51 Ah lithium-ion battery. Toyota claims fuel consumption of 4.9 L/100 km for the PHEV and 5.0 L/100 km for the HEV.

Other improvements on the Crown Estate include adaptive variable suspension and Dynamic Rear Steering, which improve comfort and handling. The battery is mounted under the floor, ensuring interior space remains unchanged between HEV and PHEV versions. It features a five-seat layout, a digital cockpit with dual 12.3-inch displays, and a cargo capacity of 570 litres (expandable to 1,470 litres with the rear seats folded). Upholstery options include Black, Saddle Tan, and Grayish Blue with a vintage-style pattern.

A true crossover, a blend between an SUV and a station wagon, the Crown Estate is positioned between the RAV4 and Harrier in Toyota’s domestic lineup. The model retains the Crown’s signature styling, including a hammerhead-style front fascia, while omitting amber indicators found on our version.

Japan-Exclusive Features Include Camping Accessories and Customization Options

Toyota offers several accessories exclusive to the Japanese market. Among them is a pull-out deck chair and table designed for outdoor use. The Crown Estate also has an optional soft luggage mat, increasing its appeal for camping and leisure activities.

Factory options include a Modellista body kit and 21-inch alloy wheels. The Crown Estate’s colour palette includes five solid hues and five two-tone finishes, with the Precious Metal and Massive Gray combination reserved for the PHEV variant.

The Crown Estate is now available in Japan, while its North American counterpart, the Crown Signia, remains hybrid-only and does not offer the same customization options. The Crown sedan, however, is available with the 340-hp Hybrid Max powertrain.
