Sky Broadband customers are being contacted by the company to explain how their hub could need to be replaced. Customers with older-style equipment have been receiving an email about what to do.
The email said: “At Sky we’re always looking to bring the latest innovative technology to our customers. As we do this, we’re always making improvements to our infrastructure to enhance both its reliability and performance.
“In 2022, the UK government published a new security framework to make the UK’s telecommunications infrastructure more resilient.
In line with government guidance, we wanted to let you know while your hub continues to keep you connected to the internet, it no longer receives service and security updates. To review your options, including how to update or change your hub, visit our portal here. You’ll need to have your Sky ID and password ready to log in.”
The page at the link explains that older-style Sky Hubs are now no longer receiving service and security updates. Sky Q Hubs, meanwhile, will stop getting updates on December 31, 2025.

Customers can ask for an updated hub, free of charge, using their My Sky accounts via the above portal page. It should arrive in between one and two weeks from ordering, Sky said.
Alternatively, Sky said users could keep their existing hub, but improve security by changing their hub admin password. It set out the steps below to do so.
Connect your device, like a laptop or mobile, to your hub through WiFi or an Ethernet cable.
On your device, open a web browser, e.g. Google Chrome/Microsoft Edge/Apple Safari.
