Television presenter Josie Gibson admitted that despite putting on a brave face, she and her childhood friend always worried that their weight would contribute to their romantic success.
Writing in The Josie Gibson Diet Book, the This Morning favourite spoke about growing up with her best friend, reffered to as J, and how they used to steel themselves for a night out and push back against any haters.
Of J and their antics, she said: “We met when we teenagers and used to work the summer seasons in Ayia Napa together. We’d go out on the lash calling ourselves ‘The Big Girls’, joking with blokes that there was too much of us for them to handle.
“But in secret, in those searingly honest moments you only have with your closest friends who you know will never judge you after a few bevvies, we’d talk about how we longed to be loved and how we’d love to be part of a couple like the ones we saw on our nights out.
“You know the ones I mean: he’s tall and handsome, she’s petite and sexy, they walk down the street holding hands, or maybe he has his hand placed delicately in the small of her back. They both know they’re good-looking, he’s proud to have her on his arm and she’s proud to be there.”

Josie added that both she and her best friend had both had boyfriends who treated them badly and suspected that part of the reason for the mistreatment was down to their weight.
This isn’t the only example of Josie, 40, getting very personal about her weight loss journey, one which has seen her lose 31kg. She also noted: “I didn’t get a gastric bypass; I got off my big a**e, moved more, ate less and educated myself on what I was stuffing into my body.”
What’s more, Josie has also spoken in-depth to the Mirror about her modern day daily routine and the careful balance between getting fit and keeping morale up through the odd tactical treat day.
She explained: “I did the six-day plan on Do The Unthinkable, which entitled me to one day off. Now on that one day off, I had one cheat meal.
“I didn’t go crazy and drink 10 bottles of wine and binge all day on food and chocolate and all the naughty things I haven’t been having, I just had my one cheat and that was it.
“So if you’ve got that one day off, don’t undo all your hard work. Just have your one cheat meal and enjoy it. Don’t have a day binge.”
Josie will be back on our screens tonight, presenting the latest episode of Around the World in First Class. Fans can catch the show on Channel 5 at 8pm.
