A parent-to-be has felt relieved after their wife has re-considered the inappropriate names she recently was set on for their twins.
Choosing a baby name is one of the most important decisions parents have to make as they prepare for the arrival of their unborn child. They have to consider a name that will still be suitable for the child in their adult life.
Some people like to opt for unique or uncommon names to make their child stand out. However, this can be challenging as children with unusual names are often teased in school or even by family members.
A Reddit user, RopePsychological567, shared that their wife wanted to name their unborn twins, Romeo and Juliet as she is a huge Shakespeare fan. After watching the 1968 movie version of the famous play with her friend, she seems to have decided against these names, after realising how strange it would be to name her twins after a couple.
RopePsychological567, in a Reddit post, said: “Thanks for all the comments and name suggestions. I didn’t want to speak badly about my wife, but yes, I’m well aware of how deranged it is to name a pair of siblings after a fictional couple, and I was too much of a coward to bring up the incest thing in my original post.”
The user explained that their wife’s fixation with the names Romeo and Juliet arose after she recently re-read the play and suggested that they name their twins after the main characters. They added: “I was taken aback and told her we’d sleep on it, but the following day, it was all she’d talk about, and she was so happy I didn’t have the heart to talk her out of it. “
Unfortunately, the mum-to-be “became more and more fixated on it as the weeks went on” and after the user eventually put their foot down and told their wife that they would not be naming their children “after such a famous couple under any circumstances” she “broke down.” RopePsychological567 continued: “Her best friend came over after work, and I’m not exactly sure what happened, but I know they watched the 1968 movie version of Romeo and Juliet together, which I’ve been told has a sex scene.
“I think that snapped some sense into my wife. Her friend left a few hours ago, and my wife’s been quiet, but she asked if we could look over the names I’d picked out again.
“Thanks again for all the comments; I think we both needed reality slapped into us, her from her delusion and me from my apparent lack of common sense. She’s still dead set on something Shakespeare/theatre-related and somewhat matching, but now that her head is clearer, I hope we can pick something better.”
The Reddit post, which was uploaded yesterday (March 12) has garnered 3,000 upvotes and more than 3,000 comments. One user suggested: “I think Sebastian and Viola would be so fun! And if she’s a fan of Amanda Bynes – that’s her character’s name and her twin’s name from She’s the Man!”
Another added: “Don’t name siblings after lovers… please…I highly agree with the other poster who suggested Viola and Sebastian – both solid names, Shakespearean twins, absolutely wonderful play. If your wife doesn’t like Viola, maybe alter to Violet?” A third user said: “There are so many beautiful female Shakespearean names to choose from… Miranda, Portia, Jessica, Regan to name a few.”
