Police divers searching a stretch of the River Avon near Chippenham following the disappearance of 21-year-old Sebastian Sailes, have recovered a body. The family of the Bristol UWE student have been informed of the latest development and formal identification will take place in due course.
Sebastian was last seen walking along Lovers Walk in Chippenham at around 11.30pm on Thursday, February 27 after leaving the Black Horse Pub. He is thought to have headed south on Avon Valley Walk towards his home in Notton.
Since he was reported missing, Wiltshire Police, volunteers from Wiltshire Search and Rescue, Lowland Rescue Oxfordshire, specialist support teams from other forces, local businesses and support charities have worked tirelessly to locate Sebastian.
Last week, Wiltshire Police shared what the force had been doing to search for Sebastian, including dive searches in the river and drones in the sky.
County Chief Inspector Ben Huggins said: “We’re here today with further search activity for missing person Seb. We are conducting multiple, extensive enquiries. We have deployed a dive team into the river which remains one area of focus for us.”
