Mike Tyson’s rape accuser has dropped her $5 million (£3.85m) lawsuit against the former heavyweight boxing champion.

The woman, who had claimed Tyson raped her in a limousine in the early 1990s, has withdrawn her complaint.

Court documents filed last week show the case has been discontinued “with prejudice”, meaning it cannot be refiled.

Tyson, 58, had consistently denied the allegations since the lawsuit was first filed in January 2023.

The withdrawal was detailed in a letter dated March 7, filed with the U.S. District Court Northern District of New York.

Daniel Rubin, Tyson’s attorney, wrote that the accuser’s lawyer “has informed me that Plaintiff is withdrawing her complaint.”

The letter also stated: “The parties are in the process of drafting a stipulation of discontinuance… and will file the same on or before (Friday).”

The woman had initially sought $5m in damages for the alleged assault.

Tyson’s legal team expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the case.

“While not surprising, given the baseless allegations, we are pleased with the result – a complete withdrawal of all claims without any compensation, concession or settlement of any kind from Mr. Tyson,” Rubin told USA TODAY Sports.

The attorney added: “This suit never should have been filed and this is the correct outcome.”

The accuser’s lawyer, Darren Seilback, has not responded to requests for comment on the withdrawal.

The woman had claimed Tyson “violently raped” her after a night at an Albany nightclub.

According to court documents, she initially stated the assault occurred on March 1, 1991, but later amended her complaint to say it happened on March 1, 1990.

The lawsuit was filed in New York under the state’s Adult Survivors Act, which gives sexual assault victims a one-year window to file lawsuits over assaults that happened years or decades ago.

Tyson’s legal team had objected to the amended complaint.

Brooklyn-born Tyson was one of boxing’s most dominant champions, becoming the undisputed world heavyweight champion from 1987 to 1990.
