- Genesis is recalling some 2,736 luxury vehicles in Canada, namely the G80, GV80, and GV70
- There may be a software issue that affects the digital gauge cluster from displaying correctly
- Thankfully, the fix is a simple software update performed at a dealership
Genesis is recalling some of its newer models due to a software issue that may interfere with the digital instrument cluster. In Canada, some 2,736 vehicles are affected by this recall; while another 32,594 are being recalled in the U.S.
According to documents provided to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Genesis says the digital display cluster on the recalled vehicles may flicker or fail completely upon start-up. If this occurs, crucial information will not be readily available to the driver, such as the speedometer, fuel (or battery percentage) gauge, as well as some warning notifications related to the powertrain. If the driver is unable to see the instrument panel cluster, it can increase the risk of a crash.
In Canada, the affected vehicles include:
- 2023-2024 Genesis G80 sedan
- 2023-2024 Genesis GV80 SUV
- 2025 Genesis GV70 SUV (including the EV model)
Note that in the U.S., the NHTSA says the recall also covers the 2023 and 2024 model years of the Electrified GV70.
Owners will be notified by mail and advised to take their vehicle to a Genesis dealership. A software update will need to be done, free of charge; however, it can not be done over-the-air. Genesis also notes it will reimburse owners for any out-of-pocket expenses they may have incurred in relation to this issue.
You can check online at Transport Canada, using your VIN, to see if your vehicle is affected by a recall. Transport Canada’s number for the Genesis recall is 2025-091, while the manufacturer’s recall number is R0278 (51D035).
