Lorraine Kelly has called out the unfair scrutiny faced by women in the spotlight, particularly when it comes to their wardrobe choices. The conversation arose while discussing the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton’s attire at the Commonwealth Day Service of Celebration, which some believe features a secret message.
The royal graced the annual Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey, attended by King Charles as well, after both were absent from last year’s gathering due to cancer treatments.
For the occasion, the Princess donned an eye-catching red Catherine Walker coat paired with a matching hat by Gina Foster.
On Lorraine’s ITV show, the host spoke to Vogue Williams and Paul Brand about the potential hidden message in the Princess of Wales’ outfit, suggesting it might be a gesture of support for Canada amidst escalating tensions with US President Donald Trump.

She said: “People were saying that it was a stand of solidarity with Canada because it’s in their flag. Isn’t it beautiful?” Vogue later highlighted an amusing coincidence where Princess Kate and Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner ended up wearing similar dresses, reports the Mirror.
Vogue added: “She came with the same outfit. She does look fantastic and maybe she was in solidarity with Canada as well.
“I doubt they were texting each other before to see what each other was wearing but that’s happened to me, you just have to own it.”

Paul weighed in on the discussion, remarking: “I think it’s a bit harsh. She’s just wearing red. She’s wearing a dress that’s a suitable length for the season.
“I think you guys have got it tough. If you look at all the men, I bet in Westminster Abbey they were wearing a navy blue suit or a grey suit – and that’s the uniform. But as women, if you wear the same colour basically you’re accused of wearing the same outfit. It’s a lot harder.”

Lorraine then contributed her thoughts, adding: “Angela gets a lot of stick for what she wears for various reasons and I really think that’s unfair because we wouldn’t be doing that to Keir Starmer.”
Later in the programme, Lorraine took a moment to “set the record straight” following a playful message she recorded for Vernon Ray’s radio show, where she scolded him for his attempt at a Scottish accent.
Clarifying her intentions, she said: “I was just asked to do that as a joke for Vernon Kay and it was very, very funny, but I think a lot of people thought I was being serious. I wasn’t. His attempt at a Scottish accent was appalling though!”.
Lorraine continues weekdays on ITV from 9am.
