The UK is set to see temperatures drop by almost 10C in some areas as a cold snap moves in from the north east. The Met Office has forecast high chances of precipitation across most of the country, with “wintry showers” possible in some areas.
This evening, Tuesday March 11, a wave of rain, sleet and snow is expected to blow across the UK from north to south with northern Scotland seeing some snow. For Bristol, wintry showers are possible from this evening “even down to low levels at times, with snow more restricted to the hills”, BBCWeather reports.
Colder weather will move down through the rest of the country, bringing wintry showers to other parts of the UK including the Lake District, Lancashire, the Midlands and the North East coast. Bristol continues to be at risk of the ‘odd wintery shower’, especially on higher ground, from this evening through till Friday, March 14.
From Saturday, March 15, it will stay cold, but a brighter day is expected for the Bristol area. The Met Office reports that it will be “staying on the cold side through this period (Wednesday to Friday) with overnight frosts possible”.
The Met Office expects it to be “wintry on hills” becoming “drier by the weekend, but north-easterly winds freshening”. Further up the country, ice and more frequent snow is expected.
The latest forecast for Bristol, according to BBC Weather is that this afternoon will see “variable cloud gradually move in from the north”. It should stay “generally dry aside from the odd spot of drizzle locally” – with a breezy and cold day expected.
