Lorraine Kelly has revealed the cause of her swollen face that sparked concern among ITV viewers – a painful fall at home where she hit her face on a wooden rhino ornament.

The presenter addressed the incident after fans speculated about her appearance on Thursday’s television shows.

Some viewers had questioned whether she’d had fillers or suffered an allergic reaction when they noticed her puffy face during her appearances on Good Morning Britain and Loose Women.

Explaining the mishap on Loose Women, Kelly, 65, said: “Yesterday, you know as women we try to do too many things at one time and we try to do it really fast?”

She detailed the accident: “I had a massive bag of washing, a huge big washing basket, I couldn’t see and was going from the kitchen to the living room, where there’s a wee step, and my slippers are too big, I fell over and then I fell onto a rhino – as you do! I hit my face on it!”

The 65-year-old was quick to address speculation about her appearance after viewers reached out with concern.

“A lot of people were very kindly, a lot of folks were saying: ‘Are you okay?’, ‘Have you got an allergy?’ Our viewers are so lovely! They were like: ‘You should try this!'”, she explained.

Kelly firmly denied cosmetic procedures were behind her swollen face, stating: “Somebody phoned in and said: ‘Have I had fillers’… no!”

She insisted: “It’s not an allergy, it’s not fillers!”

Kelly praised her makeup artist Helen for concealing the injury on television.

“I thought I’d be fine and I woke up this morning with the biggest shiner, this big black eye,” she said.

“Helen, our fantastic make-up artist, has actually done a brilliant job! Hasn’t she done a great job?”

When asked about the pain, Lorraine downplayed it, saying: “It’s okay… it’s a wee tiny bit but I just feel a bit silly!”

She later admitted on Scott Mills’ Radio 2 show that she still felt “silly” about the incident.

On Friday, Kelly took to Instagram to show her injury while wearing diamante-trimmed sunglasses.

Despite the tinted lenses, her painful-looking bruise remained visible in the video.

She explained she was wearing the jazzy shades ahead of her appearance on Scott Mills’ Radio 2 breakfast show to discuss her new book.

During the radio interview, Kelly sympathised with a caller who had experienced a similar fall, leaving the pair to joke about it being “socially acceptable” to fall over, though the caller didn’t have a rhino to trip over.

Mills asked Kelly why he hadn’t seen her rhino on Gogglebox, to which she explained it was “hiding” and was “rather large and difficult to move”.

The wooden ornament that caused her black eye has become an unexpected talking point following the accident.
