Inigo Calderon has insisted that football “has to be the tool” in regards to promoting community and charity work ahead of Bristol Rovers‘ dedicated Her Game Too fixture against Huddersfield Town on Saturday afternoon.

Her Game Too (HGT) is an organisation which aims to celebrate and promote women in sport along with helping make football an inclusive space for all. Almost four years on since it was founded by 10 women, some of whom Gasheads, who had experienced online sexism during lockdown, there are now over 100 Her Game Too volunteers expanding across to France, the USA and Greece.

77 of the 92 clubs are partnered with the organisation along with hundreds of grassroots teams with dedicated fixtures put in place to be a day of celebration centred around inclusivity, positivity and championing women in sport with particular focus on using the games as an opportunity to bring women along to football.

Ahead of Saturday’s dedicated fixture, Calderon, who has still only been at Rovers for two months, was of full support, telling Bristol Live: “I always say that, even when I was in Brighton, for me, the community, the charity, all these things for me that’s so important and football has to be the tool to express all these good ideas, good news with people that we want to be around the football and life in general.

“So I think football is a great tool and we have to use it in a good way. I would say that we could make great things with football, with the stars announcing things, you know? So [I’m] more than happy to help in that.”
