Disney star turned pop-punk singer Olivia Rodrigo and pop-rock band The 1975 are rumoured to have been signed to play this year’s Glastonbury Festival.
As reported by the Daily Mail, the announcement came after a backlash from festival goers who feared the 2025 edition of the music festival would be an ‘oldie but goodie’ special full of wrinkly rock stars.
The fears came as organisers of Glastonbury Festival lined up Sir Rod Stewart and Neil Young but did not announce any youthful acts.
As the paper has revealed fans’ prayers have been answered with The 1975 now likely to appear on the Pyramid Stage on the Friday night and Olivia Rodrigo being booked for the Sunday night slot.
Heart Of Gold singer Young, 79, is also expected to perform on Saturday while 80-year-old Sir Rod will do the traditional Sunday teatime ‘legends’ slot.
Matty Healy, the frontman of The 1975 is a former boyfriend of Taylor Swift, and son of actors Denise Welch and Tim Healy. The band have released five albums, all of which went to No 1, and have said headlining the main stage at the festival was their ‘ultimate goal’.
Signing Ms Rodrigo also helps Glastonbury boss Emily Eavis head off criticism over the lack of female acts booked for this year’s event, which runs from June 25 to 29.
