Cereal Partners UK and Ireland has issued a recall for Nestlé Frosted Shreddies due to potential safety concerns.

The popular breakfast cereal may contain small hard lumps of sugar that have formed within the product.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has confirmed the recall, warning that these sugar lumps make the product unsafe to eat.

The FSA said: “The product [is] unsafe to eat and may present a choking hazard.”

Product recalls occur when customers are asked to return potentially unsafe items, while withdrawals involve removing products from shelves.

The FSA issues product recall information notices to let consumers and local authorities know about problems associated with food.

In other food recall news, shoppers have been warned of crisps that could pose a serious health risk to those with allergies and food intolerances.

The FSA stated milk, soya and wheat (gluten) are all present, but have not been declared.
