This is the first time we’ve ever tested a pet water fountain and I was very curious how our old cat would react. We were using the cordless version of the Enabot ROLA Smart Pet Water Fountain, although you can also pick up a corded version for around a tenner less.
The ROLA provides pets with fresh, clean water while claiming to offer safety and convenience for owners. On unpacking there’s a little bit of assembly required but nothing too arduous.
Once set up, filled up and linked to your phone via the Enabot app, you’re ready to go. The fountain has a sensor meaning it starts pumping out water when it detects anything coming near it (be it you or your pet).
The fountain includes a filtration system that removes impurities, hair and microorganisms, creating a hygienic drinking environment. The. The 2lt water tank provides up to seven days of water with few refills, and the detachable design allows for easy cleaning.
Battery life on the cordless version is excellent – lasting up to 60 days on a single charge. You’ll need to clean it out once a week, however, and replace the main filter every couple of weeks and a sponge every month. You only get one of each initially which took me back a little. Picking up a bundle of six filters and three sponges will set you back £20 so there is some considerable ongoing costs.
The ROLA is whisper quiet and, after a few days looking at is suspiciously, our cat was happy using it. The app monitors how often your cat drops by and also reminds you when it’s time to change the filters and/or give it a clean.
It’s nice to look at and has a compact design. For the price, it’s a decent buy. However, those ongoing costs might give you pause.

Enabot ROLA Smart Pet Water Fountain for intelligent, convenient and safe pet hydration available for £34 for the corded version and £49.99 for the cordless battery powered version via Amazon.
What users say
Nick says: My cat is too timid and runs away when the sensor is triggered and the water runs. Hopefully, he will get use to it and use it soon. I think it’s too big as it takes over his feeding area. The app is useful because you have control over the water fountain modes and can see usage statistics. Anyone can trigger the sensor so it’s not always your cat that’s setting it off so statistics may be inaccurate. Still it is useful for water level, you will know if your pet is drinking or not.
Athos says: Everyone in our family really likes this water fountain including us and the cat as well. Out cat really liked that it offers her a great opportunity to drink water her favorite way. She really likes to drink water straight from the stream. But sometimes she also likes to drink the water from the flat surface, like from a bowl.
