In their rush to crown Mark Carney as their new Liberal saviour leading to four more years in power, the old boys of the Laurentian elite want you to forget what their last 10 years in power were like.

Forget the multiple ethics violations committed by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his cabinet ministers.

Forget the lucrative government contracts awarded over and over again by the current Liberal government to their Liberal friends with benefits — instead of to the lowest bidders actually able to do the job competently.

Forget a decade of squandering Canada’s vast resources of oil and natural gas by actively working against policies that would have helped to mine and ship them to global markets, instead of having to sell them at huge discounts to the United States.

Forget about the Liberals losing control of the immigration file, despite warnings from their own public servants that the huge annual increases they were implementing would drive up the cost of living, especially housing, which is exactly what happened.

Forget about Canadian taxpayers paying for one of the most expensive health care systems in the developed world that, inexplicably, also has some of the longest medical wait times in the developed world.

Forget 10 years of managerial incompetence in presiding over the nation’s finances.

Forget its culmination in what was likely its last major economic statement before the next election with the Liberal government overshooting its predicted deficit of $40.1 billion for the 2023-24 fiscal year – which then finance minister Chrystia Freeland had described as a necessary fiscal guard rail to rein in spending – by 54%, coming in at $61.9 billion.

Forget that independent, non-partisan parliamentary budget officer Yves Giroux found in reviewing that economic statement last month that its economic scenarios downplayed potential economic risks facing taxpayers in light of uncertain and volatile global events.

He also found the demographic assumptions underpinning that economic statement weren’t transparent and likely inconsistent with current government policies.

On immigration, Giroux said, the “positive impacts of (its) new immigration policies are highlighted … while none of the negative impacts are mentioned.”

Given that record, re-electing the Liberals would send them the worst possible message — that everything’s fine — because guaranteed if that’s what happens, they’ll do it all again
