BBC Eggheads icon Chris Hughes has died at the age of 77. Tributes have been paid to the “great” quizzer who won Mastermind, International Mastermind and Brain of Britain.
His death was announced on the Eggheads Official social media channels. Posting on X it said: “It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of Eggheads great Chris Hughes.
“Chris joined the show in 2003 and over the next 20 years gave us not only brilliant answers but very many laughs and happy memories. He will be hugely missed by all his Eggheads family.”
The star was one of only seven people to have won both Mastermind and Brain of Britain. He also appeared on The Weakest Link, being voted out in the final elimination round without getting a question wrong.
Host Anne Robinson went on to say he was “the best contestant we have had on the Weakest Link”. And in a rare tribute she opted not to use her signature “you are the Weakest Link, goodbye!” catchphrase, instead simply saying “goodbye Chris”.
