Watch the moment GB News star Bev Turner clashed with eco-campaigner Donnachadh McCarthy over a new report calling on Britons to drastically cut down on meat.
According to the Climate Change Committee, giving up two doner kebabs’ worth of meat a week will be enough to keep the UK within safe climate limits by the end of the next decade.
Bev hit out at the report, saying it is an “extreme overreach” and Britons should not be lectured to about lifestyle decisions.
She continued: “If we’re going to reduce our livestock numbers by a quarter by 2040, what is that going to do to the British landscape?

“We’re just going to be covered by solar panels, all owned by international companies.”
McCarthy responded: “Reducing meat and switching to a plant-based diet is not going to destroy our landscape, the opposite in fact.

“70 per cent of the landscape is dedicated to livestock at the moment, it’s devastated our wildlife and made Britain one of the most nature-depleted nations on Earth.
“Protein from meat is the most inefficient way of producing protein for human beings. It takes nine times more land to feed a meat eater than someone on a plant-based diet.
“The British public understands this, and the positive news is they’re going in the right direction.
“40 per cent of meals at home are already plant-based and research shows the British public has already reduced its meat consumption by 17 per cent.

A drastic cut in meat consumption would be another blow for farmers who are bracing for Labour’s inheritance tax raid

“We have to remember, our precious soils are being depleted by this excessive livestock overproduction, it’s leading to flooding. The positives to plant-based life are extraordinary.”
Bev angrily refuted the suggestion Britons should be forced to adapt their diets as she went about grilling McCarthy.
“Why should we have to eat less meat? Why should anybody tell us what we can and cannot have on our plate?”, she asked.
McCarthy claimed nobody is forcing Bev to change her ways, she is merely being encouraged to do so.
“I’m not a child”, Bev hit back. “If I want to eat a steak, I will eat a steak.”
Emily Nurse, head of net zero at the Climate Change Committee, denied claims the Government is forcing people to go vegan.
She admitted “we do expect to see a shift in dietary habits” after the committee published its official advice to the Government on meeting the UK’s target of reaching net zero emissions by 2050 on Wednesday.
