Arne Slot has been banned for two matches after raging at the match officials following Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Everton at Goodison Park earlier this month.

The match ended in controversy, with the Reds livid that James Tarkowski’s late strike was allowed to stand.

Following the fixture, Slot was unable to keep his emotions in check – with the Liverpool boss raging at the officials.

But he’s now been punished for his actions, with the FA deciding to give him a two-match ban.

His assistant, Sipke Hulshoff, has been banned from two games as well as being given a £7,000 fine.

Everton have been fined £65,000 for failing to control their players, while the Reds will have to fork out £50,000.

With Slot banned, Liverpool will be without their manager for tonight’s Premier League clash with Newcastle.

He will be able to take charge of next Wednesday’s showdown with Paris Saint-Germain given that’s a Champions League fixture.

But Slot will also miss Liverpool’s clash with Southampton on March 8.

The good news for Liverpool is the 46-year-old will be able to take charge of the team when they meet Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final on March 16.

Speaking after the draw with Everton earlier this month, Slot admitted that his emotions had got the better of him.

“I won’t go into details,” he said.

“I think what happened was the extra time ended up being eight, it happens a lot, the emotions got the better of me, if I look back I would love to do it differently.

“There is an ongoing process and I will respect that.”

He continued: “Many things happened in extra time that led to me being quite emotional.

“There was a VAR review for two minutes and I thought, maybe the only thing that could happen is he looks back at the foul, or maybe it’s offside.

“Of course then, after 10 minutes you hear there fans cheering and you [realise] it’s not offside.

“So many things happened in extra time but as I said it would not be smart to go into every incident.”
