Long-awaited plans to pedestrianise a busy street in Belfast will remain on hold due to staffing constraints, officials say. The street was pedestrianised for a trial period in 2020 during the Covid pandemic, with a view to making the move permanent. it follows an “informal consultation” on the plans, which resulted in “most” respondents being in favour, but a “majority” wanting to maintain “full vehicle access”, the Department for Infrastructure (DfI) said.
