Greece is set to face widespread disruption as mass demonstrations and nationwide strikes are planned for February 28, marking two years since the deadly Tempi Valley train disaster.
The nationwide action will bring significant disruption to public transport and services across the country.
The demonstrations will commemorate the 2023 rail collision in the Thessaly region of central Greece, where a passenger train and freight train crashed, resulting in 57 deaths and 85 injuries.
The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) is warning Britons of the planned disruptions.

The FCDO said: “All public transport will face serious disruptions and suspension to services. Ferries, nationwide trains, and air traffic controllers will conduct a 24-hour strike.
“Expect flight cancellations and delays for national and international flights to and from all airports in Greece. Public services, including hospitals, will face widespread disruptions and may only deal with emergency cases.”
The FCDO warned that some demonstrations in the past have turned violent. It advised avoiding demonstrations wherever possible and moving away to the last known safe place.
The FCDO stated: “Security forces often use tear gas to break up demonstrations, which can harm your breathing and vision.”
Britons are advised to check the FCDO’s website for information on how to stay safe during demonstrations.
Elsewhere, Britons travelling to Cape Verde have been issued a warning when planning activities.
Tourists have been told to check if their travel insurance covers medical care, repatriation costs and extreme sports, and consider this before booking recreational activities.

The warning comes as officials highlight that medical evacuation is likely following incidents such as quad bike accidents, due to the limited healthcare facilities on the islands.
The FCDO said: “Quad biking is considered an extreme sport. It is unlikely that it will be included in your travel insurance policy.
“Medical facilities are very basic in Cape Verde so it is highly likely that following a quad bike accident you will need to be medically evacuated.”
