Queen Mary of Denmark has reunited with her husband King Frederik X at a Copenhagen church service marking the third anniversary of the invasion of Ukraine.

The royal couple attended The Church of Holmen, the oldest Renaissance building in the Danish capital, on Monday evening.

Queen Mary, 53, displayed her signature elegance in a full-length grey coat adorned with a diamond brooch, paired with a black turtleneck dress underneath.

The Australian-born Danish queen complemented her ensemble with black suede pumps and grey pearl earrings, wearing her chestnut hair in loose waves secured by a pleated headband.

King Frederik, 56, appeared dapper in a navy suit with a patterned tie as the couple took their seats at the front of the church.

The Ukrainian ambassador to Denmark, Andrii Yanevskyi, delivered an address during the poignant service.

The service follows Queen Mary’s recent solo trip to her native Australia, where she was spotted shopping at Hobart’s Salamanca Market on February 15.

The Danish queen travelled without King Frederik and their children during this brief visit to her homeland.

It marks her second Australian journey in recent months, having visited in November for her niece’s wedding and a Sydney beach holiday with her twins.

Prior to these personal visits, Queen Mary conducted an official royal engagement in Sydney last April, focusing on Danish business initiatives and sustainable projects.

The Tasmanian-born royal, who grew up in Hobart’s suburb of Taroona, has maintained strong connections with her homeland through regular visits.

Mary and Frederik’s love story began during the 2000 Sydney Olympics, with the pair meeting at “an exclusive private dinner party”, according to Mary’s bridesmaid Amber Petty.

Their romance blossomed into a long-distance relationship, with Frederik making secret trips to Australia before Mary relocated to Copenhagen in 2001 to study Danish.

The couple announced their engagement in October 2003 at Amalienborg Castle.

They married on May 14, 2004, with Frederik declaring at the altar: “From today, Mary is mine and I am hers. I love her, and I will protect her with all my love.”

The royal couple now have four children: Prince Christian, Princess Isabella, and twins Princess Josephine and Prince Vincent.
