A body has been found in the search for missing British businessman Campbell Scott, his employer has said.

Scott, 58, an employee at data analytics company Fico, was discovered dead following his disappearance on February 16 while attending a business conference in Kenyan capital, Nairobi.

His body was found by herders in Makongo forest, approximately 60 miles southeast of Nairobi – with initial reports indicating he may have been strangled.

Scott had been attending a conference at the JW Marriott hotel in the Kenyan capital when he was last seen by colleagues eight days ago.

After failing to return to his hotel, Scott was reported missing to local police, prompting an investigation.

Detectives visited numerous restaurants and bars in the area surrounding the hotel as part of their enquiries.

On Saturday, February 22, animal herders discovered a body inside a green sack in the Makongo forest.

The body was then taken to a local hospital for formal identification.

Initial reports suggested the victim had been strangled.

Though it was initially unclear whether the discovery of the body was linked to Scott’s disappearance, Nairobi police later confirmed to Fico that they had identified the body as his.

In a statement on Monday, Fico spoke out on Scott’s death.

“Campbell was a leader in our international Scores business. He joined Fico in 2014 and was instrumental in introducing Scores to new markets and growing our business with existing partnerships,” the company said.

“We mourn his passing and will miss his humour and kindness,” Fico added.

A close friend described Scott as “the kindest person in the world” who “will do anything for anyone.”

According to police reports, Scott had visited a bar in Nairobi’s upmarket Westlands area the day before his disappearance.

He reportedly returned to the same bar on February 16 before taking a taxi to one of the city’s largest slums.

The UK Foreign Office confirmed it had been in contact with Kenyan police regarding the investigation.

Kenyan authorities have requested assistance from Interpol to access Scott’s call data as part of their ongoing investigation.
