Collagen, a protein that lends structure and support to our skin, muscles, bones, and other connective tissues, gradually decreases as we age. This can result in wrinkles, sagging skin, and loss of cheek fullness.

Supplements can be beneficial at any age, but they are most effective between the ages of 20 and 30, according to Vital Proteins UK. This is when the amino acids required for collagen production begin to decrease.

The Express journalist Sophie Harris recently tried a supplement from Wassen for three months, as the best results are typically observed after this period.

With a selection of collagen supplements available in both powder and tablet forms, choosing one can be challenging. She decided on Wassen’s Beauty + Collagen, a small sachet of powder that you mix with 500ml of water once daily.

The product promises to promote healthy nails, normal skin, and healthy hair, thanks to its blend of collagen, vitamin C, biotin, and selenium, reports the Express.

Simply dissolve the lemon and raspberry flavoured powder in 500ml of water and consume it daily.

Sophie said: “I did find the flavour to be quite strong initially, and the powder took a while to dissolve, but I soon got used to it.

“Drinking 500ml of this every day to be quite the challenge as it’s a quarter of your recommended daily intake in one sitting.

“I didn’t like to leave the drink for too long as I found the powder would sink to the bottom which wasn’t very pleasant when you finished the drink.”

After three months of consistent use, Sophie noticed significant improvements like thicker, healthier and fuller hair.

She added: “My nails are stronger and grow much quicker, and my skin has also balanced out with little pigmentation anymore.

“It’s hard to know how much of this improvement can be put down to the collagen supplement or whether it’s the time of year and diet, but I’d say it has been a dramatic improvement since taking the supplement.”
