Strictly Come Dancing judge Anton Du Beke has publicly apologised to ITV presenter Ben Shephard after making a mistake while on air. Anton, 58, has launched a new podcast Putt And Strut, along with co-host Sky Sports presenter Sarah Stirk.

Anton and Sarah appeared on Monday’s Good Morning Britain to discuss the new podcast with hosts Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley. The audio show will see the co-presenters joined by celebrity guests, including James Nesbitt and Judy Murray.

Anton said he hopes the podcast encourages more women to get into golfing. He also said the sport “doesn’t have to be really expensive” and added that he would love “non-golfers” to tune into the podcast.

Later on Monday, the Strictly star took to Instagram after his GMB appearance. In a video that had been filmed in what looks like the back of a taxi, Anton said: “My loves, we’ve just been on national telly talking about our new podcast Putt and Strut.

“But you [Sarah] mentioned that the wonderful Ben Shephard was a…” and Sarah interjected with: “A fifteen handicap. I’ve made a bit of a booboo, Ben is going to be on the podcast very soon and I know Ben. Great golfer, fabulous golfer … he’s actually a 7 [handicap]”.

Anton added: “He’s nowhere near fifteen, he’s 7.” Sarah said: “I feel terrible, Ben”. Captioning the update, Anton wrote: “An apology! @benshephardofficial

“My loves, Sarah and I were on TV this morning talking about our new podcast, @puttandstrut and mistakenly Ben’s golfing handicap was referenced as 15. We would like to correct this and confirm it is 7. Ben, we can’t wait to see you on the green soon!”
