While some parents honour tradition by passing names down through generations, others aim for a unique name to help their child stand out in life. But one mum has found it hard to hold in her laughter upon hearing the ‘ridiculous’ names in her son’s class.

Her son’s teacher made a list of 20 students’ names for Valentine’s Day card-writing which prompted the mum to issue her verdict on the monikers. Sharing her thoughts on Reddit, she posted: “My son’s class list. I’ll never understand what’s wrong with parents these days…”

The list reads:

  • Mylinda-Joelei
  • Isabella
  • Hudson
  • Careline
  • Nevaeh
  • Jackson
  • Dylan
  • Olivia
  • Mason
  • Praise
  • Jori
  • Archie
  • Emily
  • Sara
  • Kaelyn
  • Xavier
  • Christian
  • Alaena
  • Penelope
  • Makynkleigh

One reacted: “I was reading down the list and thought, ‘Okay this isn’t awful’ then I got to Makynkleigh.” Another chimed in with disbelief: “Praise, pronounced Robert.” While a third expressed: “I thought nothing could dethrone the rage I feel for Neveah but Makynkleigh is very close.” An additional user lamented: “20 is only missing a few letters short of the entire alphabet. I hate to think what their middle name is.”

This amusing debacle comes after a dad confessing he changed his daughter’s middle name without his wife’s consent because he disliked it. He detailed how he had an arrangement with his wife on naming rights before they even started trying for a baby – he would name their first son, and she would decide on their first daughter’s name.

However, the couple struggled to agree on a middle name for their future child. The father shared on Reddit: “My wife and I just had our second child, a baby girl. The only thing we didn’t agree on was middle names.”

He continued: “My wife decided because she had carried the children she would decide both of their middle names. She wanted to pass on a family traditional name on her mother’s side and wanted to pass on her paternal grandmother’s middle name as well.

“Our first child, a boy, has the family’s traditional middle name from her mother’s side. It’s a unisex name that always goes to the firstborn child.” According to him, he “didn’t care” about the middle name when their first child was born, but this changed with the arrival of their daughter.

“I asked her if we could give the baby my grandmother’s middle name and she said no,” he revealed. “We fought but I gave up. Until the nurse came in with the papers to name the child.

“My wife was passed out asleep and the nurse just asked if we had a name picked out. I said yes and filled out the form with my grandmother’s middle name. When my wife woke up an hour later I decided to tell her the truth immediately instead of hide it.

“She was p***ed. We got into a huge fight and she claimed she’d be changing it but she can’t because you need both parents to sign off on a name change. It’s been three days and my wife is giving me the silent treatment. Along with her visiting family. Even my family said it was a cruel thing to do while she was asleep.”
