Tensions were rife on BBC Breakfast when Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt connected live with the Saturday Kitchen studio where host Matt Tebbutt was gearing up for his show.

After revealing that Irish author Marian Keyes was a guest on his cooking show, Naga ribbed Matt that he “could have prepared better” Matt sought questions from Naga for Marian, to which she retorted: “I just think you could have prepared better Matt.”

The presenter defended himself, stating: “I mean this is not a time to critique me” but Naga persisted: “She’s written a book called Watermelon, you should have had a watermelon in the studio.

She has also written a book called Grown Ups, where are they in the studio? ” Matt interrupted to point out: “We do have sushi in the studio and there was a book called..”

Amidst cheers from his studio crew, Naga cheekily noted: “She also wrote the book The Charming Man, she got that wrong.”, reports the Mirror.

Matt playfully suggested: “Can we cut her off now? ” before switching back to the BBC Breakfast studio, where Charlie quipped to Naga: “He’s laughing on the outside.”

The BBC Breakfast episode earlier experienced an abrupt interruption when Charlie had to end his interview with Simon Smith, the former UK ambassador to Ukraine, due to breaking news.

The presenter interrupted the current dialogue with an urgent update, stating: “Simon, I appreciate your time this morning and your expertise and I apologise for interrupting you but we’ve got to go straight to Gaza where the latest handover of the hostages looks like is about to begin.”

The day’s headline news centres around a significant hostage exchange – Hamas has agreed to release six Israeli captives as part of a Saturday deal. In return, Israel will liberate over 600 Palestinian inmates, marking the most considerable single group of detainees released since the cease-fire started at the end of January.
