Police are asking anyone with any dashcam footage or information to come forward after human remains were found on a stretch of the M4 near Bristol yesterday (Saturday). The grim discovery was made between junction 20, for the Almondsbury Interchange, and junction 21, near Awkley, on the M4.
From 6.40pm, several drivers dialled 999 and reported something on the road, according to Avon and Somerset Police. Police believe the body to be that of a man in his 40s and his next of kin have been informed.
An investigation was launched to establish how the person came to be on the motorway. To help aid investigations, the police force is asking anyone driving on the M4 between 6pm and 6.45pm who has any relevant information or dashcam footage to contact the police on 101.
The M4 between junction 20 and junction 22, at the Prince of Wales Bridge, was closed for several hours yesterday. The eastbound section of the bridge was closed, as well as the M48 between the bridge and the M4.
The roads remained shut until the early hours of this morning (Sunday). National Highways said police started to release traffic caught on the motorways around midnight, as the eastbound M4 was reopened around 1.30am and westbound closures removed around 3am.
Avon and Somerset Police said: “The M4 reopened overnight following a man’s tragic death. The deceased’s next of kin have been informed and our thoughts are with them.
“If you were travelling along that stretch of the M4 between 6pm and 6.45pm, and have any relevant info footage, please call 101 with reference 5225047292.”
