Hollywood actress Emma Thompson has visited a particular Clifton restaurant three times while filming in Bristol. The Oscar-winning star, who is famed for her roles in films such as Love Actually, Harry Potter, and Nanny McPhee among others, has been returning to the Fish Tales Restaurant in the heart of Clifton Village.
Sharing a photo of Emma to its Instagram page, the team at Fish Tales wrote: “We’ve had the absolute pleasure of hosting the incredible Emma Thompson not once, not twice, but THREE times at @fishtalesrestaurantbar since we opened our doors.
“When a legend like her keeps coming back, you know we must be doing something right. Emma, if you’re reading this—your table is always ready!”
The star has recently been spotted alongside fellow actress Ruth Wilson (known for roles in Luther, The Affair and His Dark Materials) in Bristol filming new AppleTV+ series, Down Cemetery Road. The series is based on the novel of the same name, written by Mick Herron.
Set in Oxford, a woman hires an investigator after an explosion, and a girl goes missing on the same night. The two leads in the series were spotted near Baltic Wharf, in the Harbourside, back in January, preparing to shoot a scene in front of a green screen. The actresses were positioned on a boat with crew to the right.

There’s also been filming at College Green, the University of Bristol, Corn Street, and elsewhere in the city centre.
Fish Tales opened in what was previously the New Moon Tapas restaurant. in Clifton Village back in July, a month after filming for the new series reportedly started. Those behind the restaurant described it at the time as being “set to become Clifton Village’s go-to destination for seafood lovers, combining culinary excellence with an artistic and welcoming atmosphere”.
The newly revamped restaurant features mural artwork on the walls by artist Malcolm Golding, as well as many nods to marine aesthetics, with blue shades and rustic wooden accents. And it seems to be a firm favourite for the Hollywood star now too.
