Carol Kirkwood, BBC Breakfast’s weather reporter, found herself turning red when she had an on-air mishap on Tuesday morning.

The programme featured presenter Jon Kay alongside Sarah Campbell, who was covering for Sally Nugent. This change in the line-up seemed to trip up Carol.

After finishing her weather report, she said: “It’s Thursday that we’ll all be in that milder air, Jon and Sal.”

Instantly noticing her mistake in addressing Sarah as ‘Sal’, she looked visibly shocked.

As Jon chuckled and Sarah caught onto the blunder, Carol, laughing with embarrassment, corrected herself: “Sarah! Sorry.”

While the hosts were giggling over the mix-up an awkward moment occurred with the broadcast shifting to a different presenter at another desk for BBC London Breakfast news, reports Express.

This caught the other host unprepared as she found herself on-screen seemingly unsure. In the background Jon and Sarah’s voices lingered, discussing Carol’s error, with Sarah saying: “I didn’t hear what she said!” while Jon quipped: “Shh, don’t tell her, don’t tell her.”

During the live episode, BBC Breakfast hosts Jon and Sarah were left chuckling when the host quipped to weather presenter Carol: “Thanks, Helen!”

This wasn’t the only hiccup of the morning as BBC’s Sophia Seth also needed to apologise.

During her ‘BBC South Today’ segment, viewers heard an incorrect audio overlapping while the camera was on Sophia, who swiftly apologised with a smile, commenting: “Sorry about that!”

After wrapping up, she promised to return in 30 minutes, handing back to Jon and Sarah.

However, it appeared there was another sound slip-up, as an unknown woman’s voice came through saying: “Right, I’m going to go and continue-” only to be cut off by the show’s return to Jon and Sarah.

The error caught viewers’ attention with amused and confused reactions online, sparking comments such as: “What even was that lmao.”

Someone else replied: “Happened yesterday the talking behind the scenes.”

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays on BBC One starting at 6am.
