Laundry expert Deyan Dimitrov from Laundryheap says that this common medicine cabinet item can work miracles when it comes to removing mould from fabrics.
This means you don’t have to throw out your affected clothes, saving you money and giving your laundry a fresh start in the process, reports the Express.
Aspirin contains acetylsalicylic acid, which aids in breaking down stains, brightening whites, and even combating mould spores hidden in fabric.
According to the expert, it’s a game-changer for anyone dealing with yellowed shirts, sweat stains, or mildew smells on towels.
And the best part is, aspirin is budget-friendly at Boots for just 54p a pack, making it a cheap alternative to pricey stain removers. It’s also eco-friendly, free from harsh chemicals or artificial whiteners, and gentle on fabrics, unlike bleach, which can weaken fibres.

Simply crush five aspirin tablets and mix them with water to create a paste. You can add white vinegar or lemon juice for an extra boost.
Apply the paste to any areas affected by mould, leave it for 30 minutes, then wash as usual. You can also add dissolved aspirin to your detergent drawer for a deep clean of your machine.
Aspirin is also an effective tool in combating fungal infections. Because of this, many gardeners add aspirin to water when cultivating tomatoes to prevent disease, as its antifungal properties halt the spread of mould.
This same principle applies to fabric, making aspirin ideal for removing mildew from clothes, curtains, and even washing machines.
However, if you’re dealing with other stains or yellowing, crush the aspirin and dissolve them in a bowl of warm water. Soak stained clothes in the solution for a few hours, or overnight for tougher marks.
Then, simply wash them as normal in your machine.
