Sam Thompson has revealed how a hit BBC TV show really works after unknowingly starring on the show alongside ex-girlfriend Zara McDermott.

Former Made in Chelsea star Sam featured on Michael McIntyre’s Midnight Gameshow last month. It saw comedian Michael bursting into the former couple’s bedroom, with a shocked Sam exclaiming “I thought we were being burgled”.

The Midnight Gameshow is part of Michael McIntyre’s Big Show, which airs on Saturday nights. Having made an appearance on the show, Sam, 32, has now revealed how it is made.

Speaking with best friend Pete Wicks on their Staying Relevant podcast, Sam explained: “If anyone has ever watched Michael McIntyre’s Midnight Gameshow you would think that it is all fake. Mate, it is f****** real.

“It is so terrifying. He doesn’t even come at midnight, he comes at 2am. It couldn’t be later if you tried”

Sam said he worried he was in a horror film after the comedian burst in complete with a camera crew. He disclosed how the crew got into the house he shared with Zara, thanks to her brother Brad letting them in, reports the Mirror.

He explained: “He comes in at 2am and what normally happens is he bursts into the room and they let off these like [party] poppers, you know, where you twist the things and they go bang, and they freak you out.”

He added: “He goes ‘Welcome to Michael McIntyre’s Midnight Gameshow’ and our problem is that the door was locked, so it’s even scarier for us. The bedroom door was locked.”

“Every night that door was locked and so it’s even scarier though. Zara’s brother was meant to be staying that night and he basically came to me and was like ‘hey man, do you mind if I stay, like my girlfriend’s having a party around the flat’ and I was like ‘sure, no worries at all’ and he was in on the joke and let them in at like 1am and they had to setup downstairs with us even knowing.”

“I woke up to Zara going ‘Sam, Sam’, there’s someone twisting the doorknob and you could hear and see the doorknob going and it was like we are in a Nightmare on Elm Street, it was absolutely terrifying. Then someone was scratching the door.”

After realising what was going on, Sam says his attention turned to being a “good contestant” as Michael brought out a series of former Love Island contestants to play the Midnight Gameshow.

Sam said: “The door gets opened and they barge in and he goes ‘Welcome to Michael McIntyre’s Midnight Game Show’, he barges in and I can’t describe the feeling, you are so shocked because you are still half asleep then it’s the panic you feel.”

“I’ve never had this before, he’s my home, he’s like in my space and immediately you think ‘are you having a good time Michael’. I’ve never felt like that before, I sat there and I felt like a host. I got into my bed and I tried to be a really good contestant.”

On the hit BBC show, Michael shared that Sam was “very, very worried that people weren’t having a good time” and needed to have a “Gaviscon and a fart” after coming to terms with what occurred. Sam and Zara called it quits this past December following a five-year relationship.

Fans can look forward to more laughs as Michael McIntyre’s Big Show is back on screens at 6.50pm tonight on BBC One, featuring Strictly Come Dancing judge Shirley Ballas as the Unexpected Star of the Show, and top performances by Alfie Boe and Michael Ball.
