A Jet2 flight was forced to make an emergency landing after a passenger died on board. The plane, which had departed from Tenerife at 7.05pm on Friday evening and was en route to Nottingham, had to be diverted to mainland Spain following the fatal medical emergency.
The passenger, believed to be in his 70s, required urgent medical attention, according to crew members who alerted air traffic control. Despite immediate treatment by emergency services upon landing at Santiago-Rosalía de Castro Airport, the man was sadly pronounced dead on the runway, reports the Manchester Evening News.
Local newspaper Diario de Avisos reported: “A flight covering the Tenerife South-Nottingham route has been diverted on Friday afternoon to Santiago-Rosalía de Castro Airport due to the indisposition of a passenger, who has finally died
“The flight crew reported that they had a passenger with significant medical problems on board and need to be urgently diverted to the Compostela airport (on the Spanish mainland).
“An ambulance from the Galician Health Emergency Service-061 was sent to the terminal in the Galician capital, whose medical staff confirmed the death of a man in his 70s.”
