Police are investigating a “potential spiking incident” at a nightclub in Belfast city centre this morning.
The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service confirmed one person was taken to hospital following the incident at the venue in the Pattersons Place area of the city.
It is understood by this newspaper that the person hospitalised was a woman.
In a statement, a NIAS spokesperson said: “The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service received a 999 call at 02:20 on Thursday 13th February following reports of an incident in the Pattersons Place Area, Belfast.
“NIAS despatched one Emergency Ambulance crew to the incident.
“Following initial assessment and treatment at scene, one patient was taken to Royal Victoria Hospital by ambulance.”
A PSNI statement added: “Yesterday evening (12th February) police received a report of a potential spiking incident in Belfast city centre. Investigative enquiries remain ongoing.”
