Households in a certain part of the UK could be eligible for a significant supermarket discount when shopping in stores such as Sainsbury’s, Asda and Tesco, but only if they meet eligibility criteria.

North Yorkshire residents are being reminded that they have only hours left to claim their £150 cost of living vouchers before today’s deadline.

The support, provided through the Department for Work and Pensions’ (DWP) Household Support Fund (HSF), must be claimed by the end of February 13, 2025.

Eligible households who received notification can still claim their e-vouchers through the council’s website with the £150 vouchers available at nine major supermarket chains across the region.

Those who qualified for the scheme were notified by post before January 21, 2025, with details of how to access their support.

Selected households received their e-voucher codes and instructions by post ahead of the January 21 deadline. The scheme is part of the sixth phase of the Household Support Fund, with eligibility criteria recently updated based on guidance from the DWP.

The council notes that due to changes in guidance, some residents who received support in previous phases may not qualify this time.

“The Household Support Fund was set up to help people who are struggling with the increase in living costs and feeling the financial pressure of paying their bills,” the council said.

The council issued a stark warning about the deadline: “If you have had a letter telling you that you are eligible for a Household Support Fund payment, you must select your e-vouchers by February 13, 2025. We cannot process any claims after this date.”

Residents can enter their unique code from their letter on the council’s website to select their vouchers.

The council’s website also provides information about cost of living advice and other sources of support, including their exceptional circumstances fund.

Aldi has topped the list of cheapest supermarkets in a recent survey

ALDI

Earlier this week, Aldi was named as the UK’s cheapest supermarket by trade magazine, The Grocer, in its independent price comparison survey.

The polling examined a basket of 33 everyday items that highlighted the gap between Aldi and the four largest full-price supermarkets – Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Asda and Morrisons – which were 16 per cent more expensive.

Julie Ashfield, Manging Director for Buying at Aldi, said: “The latest data confirms that our prices simply can’t be matched and our customers know that the only place to get Aldi prices is by shopping at Aldi.

“Other supermarkets can try and compete with us through loyalty schemes and flashy promotions but the only thing on a roll is Aldi, being named the best on price time after time. That’s because our promise to our customers is straightforward and simple – they will make significant savings every time they shop with us.”
