With Canadian consumers having a short breather from the impact of US President Trump’s tariff threats, many buyers are looking at pulling the trigger on their next vehicle purchase before prices skyrocket in a trade war between Canada and the US. Used luxury SUVs in Canada may see renewed interest from US consumers with their much stronger dollar and no import Trump tariffs for now. So expect some competition from south of the border when hitting dealership lots hunting for a pre owned luxury SUV. Canadian dealers located close to the border love US shoppers due to the lack of reconditioning resources they have to employ for them compared to selling to a local Canadian purchaser. Basically all they have to do is wash them and post them on their websites and let the bidding begin. But there are still deals to be had for smart shoppers.

1. Used Acura RDX 2015-2018

Price range CA$8,000 to $30,000

While it doesn’t break new ground in styling, performance, or interior luxury, it offers a solid blend of comfort and reliability. Owners like its smooth, powerful V6 engine paired with a six-speed automatic transmission, delivering a respectable 12.9 L/100 km overall. The handling is stable, but not particularly nimble, and the ride feels a bit stiff. The interior has been accused of being simple, lacking the upscale flair expected in a luxury vehicle. Still, with excellent reliability and solid features for the price, the Acura RDX remains a good choice for everyday driving. Being an up-badge of the Honda CR-V gives the Acura RDX access to a good selection of independent repair shops and replacement parts.

2. Used Buick Envision 2017-2018

Price range CA$17,000 to $28,000

Used Buick Envision

While the Envision might not be top of mind for a luxury SUV, (especially considering it comes from China) it does have some credentials. It debuted with a smooth 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. While the power-train offers refinement, the Buick Envision’s handling has been reported as somewhat clumsy, and owners reported wind noise at highway speeds. Inside, the cabin is well-appointed, featuring a spacious rear seat. Power-train choices include a non-turbo 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine. Notably, advanced safety features like Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), and Blind Spot Warning (BSW) are available options. Fuel economy for the 2.0 T is 10.6L/100km combined and 10.0L/100km for the 2.4 non-turbo.

3. Used Lexus RX 2018-2020

Price Range CA$29,000 to $51,000

Pre owned Lexus RX

The Lexus RX pairs a smooth 3.5-litre V6 with an eight-speed automatic, providing strong power and a commendable 12.8l/100km combined. Inside, the cabin was reviewer -reported as quiet and well-crafted, ensuring a plush ride whether on 18-inch tires or the larger 20-inch wheels found on higher trims. Handling is secure but without too much sport feel; something expected when building an SUV for luxury comfort. The RX’s mouse-like controller and interface can be challenging to master. Rear passengers benefit from generous leg and knee room. Standard safety features included Forward Collision Warning (FCW) and Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), with additional options like Blind Spot Warning (BSW) and Rear Cross Traffic Warning (RCTW). With top-notch reliability and high owner satisfaction, the RX remains a strong contender.

4. Used Cadillac XT5 2020-2023

Price Range CA$29,000 to $50,000

Second hand Cadillac XT5

The 2023 model year of this midsize Cadillac XT5 stands out for above-average reliability. The top trim features a 3.6-litre V6 paired with a nine-speed automatic, though its acceleration feels slower than expected. The base 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder, however, offers more responsiveness in daily driving. The XT5 handles well but features a stiff ride unless equipped with the active damping suspension available on higher trims. Inside, the cabin is quiet, with supportive seats and impressive fit and finish. Cadillac enhanced controls in later models, and the 2023 version boasts a more intuitive infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Fuel economy for the 2.0 L was 10.1L/100km combined and 11.3L/100km for the 3.6L V6.

5. Used Lincoln Navigator 2018-2023

Price Range CA$50,000 to $100,000

Used Lincoln Navigator

Redesigned for 2018, the Lincoln Navigator elevates luxury over its Ford Expedition counterpart, boasting a quiet, elegant cabin filled with high-tech features. While low-speed rocking can be felt, the ride improves on highways, offering comfort. Handling is cumbersome for such a large SUV, though. Powered by a twin-turbo V6 producing 411 hp on regular fuel and paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, the Navigator effortlessly cruises and can tow up to 8,300 pounds. The front cabin offers plenty of space, though the standard seats are uncomfortable. Rear passengers enjoy heated seats, connectivity, and a spacious third-row. Standard safety features arrived in 2020, and a 2022 refresh introduced Activeglide and an upgraded infotainment system. NRCan fuel ratings were 13.2l/100km combined.

When purchasing any pre owned luxury ride loaded with features and tech, it’s very worthwhile to check out warranties. If a factory standard plan is still in effect, get it transferred into your name. If it’s beyond any base or power-train coverage, consider a manufacturer-backed warranty plan. On top end vehicles, it doesn’t take very many repair bills to justify the purchase price of extended coverage.
