Independent not-for-profit Prior is opening a new branch in Redfield. And it’s hoping to open this coming weekend (Feb 15/16).
Shoppers will recognise the name from its original store in Cabot Circus, as well as the Bristol Christmas Market. Prior currently houses a workshop space, gallery and community hub at its City Centre hub and now, it says, it is ‘testing’ a new location, at the former site of The Faraway Tree cafe in Church Road.
In a notice to its website, Prior says: “Bristol, we are opening a second shop! We are testing another location and you might have seen some activity on Church Road.” A recent Instagram post included a look at the work being carried out inside and detailed the hopes to open this coming weekend.
In a video on its Instagram page, Prior shared some snaps of its brand new store, complete with signage and a nod to neighbouring independent businesses. Fans were quick to share their excitement, with one writing: “So excited to have you in BS5! Welcome to the hood!”
A second said: “Looks great and what a fab location!” While a third commented: “I walked past earlier and saw the buzz of activity – so exciting!”
It comes following worries about the future of Prior’s home in Cabot Circus. In November 2024, BristolLive reportedPrior had called for the help of its shoppers to keep the business open – if not at its current home in Cabot Circus, somewhere else in Bristol. The team said that they could not afford the ‘ever increasing overheads’.
