If you’ve been looking for a new way to watch TV then Sky’s imminent launch could be for you. The provider is set to host an event today, Thursday February 11, and it could mean ditching the satellite dish once and for all.
Known for its nifty Sky Stream box and Sky Glass set – which houses streaming into a swanky QLED device – the TV giant has hinted at another product could be on the cards. As its £22 Ultimate TV deal makes headwaves something new could be coming today.
“Hello from Sky. Be one of the first to see what’s next”, is what tech Editor David Snelling from The Express recieved. It said: “Be one of the first to see what’s next, smarter, brighter and better than ever.”
The specific details are still being kept hush hush but hints are pointing towards a newest addition of the Sky Glass TV, although we can’t say for certain. This 4K TV currently comes packaged with the providers essential TV package’, available in 43-inch, 55-inch, and 65-inch screen sizes prices start at £27 per month.
Our tech team’s eyes have been looking at the device all week, as its current £96 contract saving has caught our attention – not only for the discount but it’s seemingly lengthy period of offer time on the potentially ‘soon-to-be-older’ sets.
So, what exactly does the Sky Glass TV offer? Expert David Snelling has all the details, he said: “Offering a seamless way to tune into live and on-demand content without the need for a dish. In fact, everything is beamed to the screen via the web instead of a standard over-the-air signal.
“Since it first landed in stores, Sky has been regularly updating the software and adding more features such as more personalised playlists and easier ways to find favourite content. However, the hardware – including the QLED 4K screen – has stayed the same.”
The invite recieved by those tapped into the tech industry hint that the Sky Glass sets will making the switch from its current QLED to OLED, which have the advantage being thinner, as hints like ‘brighter’ were included strongly in the invite.
OLED is said to offer beter picture quality than QLED sets as it has deeper black shades and vivid, bright whites. And does this without using backlighting. Samsung currently offers one of the most extensive ranges of the high-end OLED devices – with prices from £999 – while Argos has reduced the LG 48-inch OLED to £699.
It’s an exciting time for tech fans as the countdown to the launch begins, however, it may not be the best choice for all TV shoppers. The Sky Stream box has become a hugely popular device over the last few years and it is typically a lot cheaper than its integrated Sky Glass sets.
In the sale it’s now £15 per month as part of its ‘Essential TV Package’, which across the full 24-month plan works out much cheaper than the Glass. Plus, this can be paired with any HDMI TV so users don’t have to fork out thousands (£1,296 in total) on a TV.
