A former Avon & Somerset Police special sergeant allegedly sent sexual messages and a photo of a road crash to a woman. Neil Young, who was based in South Gloucestershire, faces a police misconduct hearing at force headquarters on Wednesday, February 19.

A notice on the police website said the ex-volunteer officer was accused of breaching the standards of professional behaviour in terms of confidentiality and discreditable conduct. It said: “The alleged facts are: During December 2022 and January 2023, while off-duty, the former officer sent sexualised messages to a woman.

“While on-duty, the former officer also shared a photograph of a road traffic collision with the woman, when he did not have a policing purpose to do so. There were no members of the public in the photograph.

“It is contended that (if proven) the allegations amount to gross misconduct.”
