Too Good To Go has been a hit for Brits looking for bargains since its launch in 2016. The app allows users to score some discounted food from local eateries that were otherwise going to waste. The app became particularly popular during the pandemic, with supermarkets even taking part, offering items nearing their best before dates.
Shoppers looking for a deal have often shared their hauls from the app, showing off what products they got for a quarter of the price, but the nature of the app means it’s a gamble, as one shopper recently found out.
Nick Ball (@thebaldtiktoker) uses his platform to share the Too Good To Go Bags he collects, the good and the bad. Ball has had issues with one supermarket’s offerings in particular, previously receiving mouldy tomatoes and out of date fruit in the past.
The supermarket that’s been put to shame is none other than Morrisons, and Ball recently returned to the store in Cribbs Causeway to see if the Too Good To Go bags had improved. Unfortunately, Ball was still disappointed with his bag that is allegedly worth £30.
The content creator shared that he paid £10 for the contents of a cottage pie ready meal, frozen cauliflower pieces, mash potatoes, a trio of cheese packs and a brownie.
Unhappy with the bag, Ball went back into the shop to complain, saying: “They said this was a £30 bag but this is not £30, I’m taking it back to see what they say.”
He complained to a staff member, saying: “That’s not even a tenner’s worth – you take a look. I reckon you have given me the wrong bag.” The employee insisted that Nick had received the correct bag, sparking a confrontation recorded and posted on TikTok.
During the exchange, Ball discovered that what he thought were croutons were actually frozen mashed potatoes, and he left without any resolution, declaring to his followers: “Well, it’s all over TikTok now. That is absolutely f***ing appalling.”
The video sparked discussion online, with some agreeing with Ball’s outrage, whilst others said that Too Good To Go bags are simply luck of the draw, and you won’t always get the items you want.
“Aww that’s awful good on you for going back,” wrote one commenter. “I think he was absolutely right to raise a complaint. That certainly didn’t look like £30 value,” added another.
But some viewers thought Ball was too harsh. One commented: “I’d be fuming too but not that poor mans fault”.
Others pointed out that you’re not always going to like what you get: “You win some you lose some that’s the name of the game”.
In a new video, Ball shared that after complaining about his bag, Morrisons gave him another. Inside this was a bag of Yorkshire puddings, beef brisket, mashed potatoes and a bag of frozen veg.
During the video, he complained, “we’ve got no freezer space so I don’t know what we’re going to do with all this”. After unpacking the contents, Ball then stated: “We won’t bother with one of those bags again.”
