A man was taken to hospital after being assaulted during a burglary in Newry.

The incident happened inside a house in the Edencrieve area of the city on Friday night.

The suspects, who were wearing snoods, fled the scene.

Detective Sergeant Stewart said: “On officers’ arrival a man aged in his 40s was located with injuries to his upper body, and a serious laceration to his foot.

“It was reported he was confronted in the property by two unknown men who entered his bedroom, and subsequently attacked him with a long blunt object.

“The suspects fled downstairs and out the back of the house on foot. They are described as being aged in their early 20s, of slim build and were wearing dark clothing with snoods.

“Medical treatment was provided to the man for his injuries, and he was taken onward to hospital by colleagues from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service.”
