Lidl Northern Ireland has extended its recall of three Deluxe Cheddar Cheese Wedges.

The supermarket chain is urging customers not to eat the product due to the presence of listeria monocytogenes.

Point-of-sale notices are being displayed in stores to inform customers about the recall.

Symptoms of listeria infection can resemble flu, including muscle aches and diarrhoea. The Food Standards Agency alerted Britons of the recall.

“Symptoms caused by this organism can be similar to flu and include high temperature, muscle ache or pain, chills, feeling or being sick and diarrhoea. However, in rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications, such as meningitis.

“Some people are more vulnerable to listeria infections, including those over 65 years of age, pregnant women and their unborn babies, babies less than one month old and people with weakened immune systems.”

People who have bought the product should not consume it and return it to the store in which they bought the product for a full refund. No receipt is required.
