The Sydenham Bypass in east Belfast has reopened following reports of a ‘concern for safety.’

Emergency services responded to the ongoing incident on the Sydenham Bypass shortly before lunchtime on Friday.

The road had been closed in both directions as police dealt with the incident close to the George Best City Airport.

It’s understood the incident took place on a footbridge at the Sydenham train station.

A police spokesperson said: “The Sydenham Bypass is now clear, and traffic is flowing freely again.”

Traffic had been diverted away from the City Airport, leading to continuing knock-on delays in the greater Belfast area.

A Translink spokesperson said: “ The Bangor Line has now reopened.

“Please allow for some knock on delay / disruption.”
