Emergency services are at the scene of an ongoing incident on the Sydenham Bypass in Belfast.

The road has been closed in both directions as police deal with an incident close to the George Best City Airport.

It’s understood the incident is ongoing at a footbridge at the Sydenham train station.

A police spokesperson said: “Road users are advised to avoid the Sydenham Bypass due to a build-up of traffic as police attend a report of a concern for safety in the area. Diversions are in place.”

Traffic is being diverted away from the City Airport, leading to knock on delays in the greater east Belfast area.

In a statement on social media, George Best City Airport said: “Passengers travelling to and from Belfast City Airport are advised to leave extra time for their journey and follow any diversions in place.”

Translink has canceled all trains on the Bangor line, a spokesperson said: “Trains on the Bangor line are suspended until further notice.

“At present 600 (bus) services cannot reach the Airport.”
