During a recent BBC Breakfast episode, things got a tad uncomfortable when Morning Live’s Gethin Jones seemed to be caught fibbing.

Presenters Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt were once again gracing the iconic red sofa to deliver the day’s news.

The broadcast featured an interview with famed Olympian Chris Hoy who discussed his ongoing efforts to highlight prostate cancer, following his own diagnosis.

Post-interview, Naga and Charlie handed over to Gethin and Kimberley Walsh for a preview of what was in store on Morning Live, which is set to follow BBC Breakfast. Speaking from his own studio via video link, Gethin found himself in a bit of trouble when he expressed a wish to join Chris on his next ride, reports the Express.

Chris quickly quashed that by revealing, “Well, he dodged a mountain bike ride with us last week. He was supposed to come on that but he made an excuse.”

Naga responded teasingly: “So he’s that flaky friend, is he? Flaky!”

Gethin, managing to laugh it off without a retort and swiftly moved the conversation along with Kimberley to discuss upcoming segments on their show.

Welsh presenter Gethin, familiar to Morning Live viewers since 2020, recently found himself in the news when he was mistakenly removed from a prominent dating site.

The celebrity shared how he was booted off after other users wrongly thought his profile was a catfish scam.

Recounting his experience on the Restless Natives podcast, he said: “A couple of weeks ago I was kicked off Hinge twice in eight hours for violating the Code of Conduct. Three hundred women had reported me for catfishing.”

He continued: “It was that moment when you have to write to Hinge, on a Thursday night, all alone, ‘Dear Hinge, it’s Gethin here, 46, I just want to get my money back because it’s not really working for me’, eating some cereal because there’s nothing in the fridge. That’s when I’m like, ‘What am I doing with my life.”

BBC Breakfast airs Mondays-Sundays from 6am on BBC One.
