The Chase fans were left fuming, saying “I’m losing the will to live”, as a player made an “outrageous” choice.
Thursday’s (February 6) edition of the hit ITV gameshow saw William, Vonny, Lauren and Alex team up to take on one of Britain’s brightest quiz brains in the hopes of winning a hefty cash prize.
After William was caught within three questions by Anne Hegerty, 51-year-old leadership development administrator Vonny was up next to take on the chaser.
Despite racking up a whopping £9,000 in her cash builder, she decided to go for the low offer of £3,000.
“Well, the £60,000 is a really nice offer – really tempting. The £9,000, I could probably do that, but I’m going to go for the £3,000 to try and get back,” Vonny explained to host Bradley Walsh.
“Good for you,” Bradley acknowledged, before Anne admitted: “I predicted backstage she was going low.”
However, the show’s viewers weren’t impressed with Vonny’s decision, especially after another player went for the low offer on Wednesday’s show.
Many took to X (formerly Twitter) to share their frustrations, with one writing: “No!!!!! £3,000 low offer taken after a £9,000 cash builder! What is happening here?”
“Low offer from a 9? I need to find something else to do at 5pm on a weekday,” another added, while a third said: “Oh, for crying out loud. £9k and you go low. I’m losing the will to live with this show.”
A fourth fan echoed the sentiment: “You give us a £9000 cash builder… and you decide to go for an offer that’s only one third of it?! OUTRAGEOUS!!!”
As more contestants feel the urge to take the low offer, one viewer suggested an update to the show: “Ok, they really need to look at refreshing this show now. A £9k cash builder going low?? I think every single low offer now should be a minus, even if the team has nothing.”
Vonny’s controversial decision paid off in the end, as she made it through by the skin of her teeth, with the chaser just one question behind her.
“Had she taken any other offer, she wouldn’t have got through,” Anne later acknowledged.
The Chase airs weekdays on ITV1 at 5pm
