Drivers have been urged to take advantage of a new scheme which could see them save an extra £1,000 on new vehicles as well a greater savings of up to £10,000 in some cases.

The promotion applies to new Volkswagen electric vehicles and forms part of a limited-time deal which is in place February 4 and March 3.

Both cash buyers and drivers using finance methods through Volkswagen Financial Services can take advantage of the discount when purchasing any new ID.3, ID.4, ID.5, ID.7, ID.7 Tourer or ID. Buzz model.

The promotion comes as Volkswagen aims to encourage more drivers to make the switch from petrol and diesel vehicles to electric alternatives.

Customers choosing to finance their car through a personal contract plan can benefitfrom additionaldeposit contributions on top of the £1,000 saving.

The PCP deposit contributions vary depending on the model and range from £1,700 for the ID.7 and ID.7 Tourer to a whopping £8,900 for the ID.5.

For buyers interested in the ID.5, this means potential total savings of nearly £10,000 when combining the new £1,000 discount with the existing PCP deposit contribution.

The combined savings represent one of the most significant discount packages offered on Volkswagen’s electric vehicle range to date. All savings are available through Volkswagen’s UK retailer network, with full terms and conditions accessible online or at local dealerships.

David Hanna, Head of Network Sales at Volkswagen UK said: “We are really excited to offer this £1,000 saving to customers,” he said. “We know lots of people are thinking hard about swapping their petrol and diesel cars for an electric alternative.

“We hope this offer helps to dispel any concerns they might have about affordability and persuades them that an award-winning electric Volkswagen is the best possible choice.”

The initiative aims to address cost concerns that have been highlighted as a main barrier stopping drivers from switching to electric vehicles.

Beyond the headline £1,000 saving, Volkswagen is offering additional incentives for electric vehicle buyers. Customers can choose between a free Ohme home car charger or £500 of We Charge credit for use at public charging points.

Through Volkswagen UK’s official energy partner OVO, buyers can access the Charge Anytime tariff, enabling home charging for just 7p per KwH at any time. OVO is also providing charging credits equivalent to up to 10,000 free miles for orders placed before March 31.

Volkswagen’s latest electric vehicle promotion builds on the brand’s strong market position in the UK and commitment to the Zero Emission Vehicle mandate.

On top of the savings, the carmaker also teased a look at its upcoming compact electric vehicle which will be unveiled in March. It will be priced at roughly £16,650 for the new model, which is predicted to only be offered with an electric powertrain, rather than with a petrol or hybrid alternative.

Thomas Schäfer, CEO of the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand explained the new car will be “an affordable, high-quality, profitable electric Volkswagen from Europe for Europe. This is the Champions League of automobile manufacturing”.
