When the winter chill sets in, many Brits flock to the Canary Islands for a bit of sun-soaked respite.

Tenerife is a particular favourite due to its warm weather, clear skies and fewer crowds during the winter. It’s an ideal getaway for those seeking a break from the cold and some tranquillity.

However, a TikTok user named George Buckley has recently issued a crucial warning for those planning a holiday to Tenerife. He emphasised the importance of understanding the local transport system to save money.

In a candid online video, George advised against taking taxis while holidaying in Tenerife. According to him, there’s a key reason why you should avoid it.

He said: “Don’t get a taxi from the airport. Use the public buses. We used it to get from a 40 minute journey from the south terminal to get over to our airport, and it cost us €4.

“We’re currently waiting for our return one – it is the number 40. Taxis and Ubers will cost €50 – we checked. Obviously, you can split it but, if you actually want to save a good amount of money, take the local transport.”

He added: “It’s definitely worth while and it’s what we’re doing again on the way back. It’s very nice as well. It might be quite crowded, you might have to stand up, but it’s worth it.”

After the video was posted online, it quickly racked up thousands of views, sparking a flurry of comments. Some viewers chimed in with their own tips too.

One viewer said: “Good advice. Taxis are a rip off.” Another shared: “I went three weeks ago and stopped in Las Americas, wanted €55 for a taxi. Walked 10 minutes to the bus stop, and paid €3.70 for 20 minute direct bus to airport.”

However, some disagreed about the costs, as someone else added: “Buses are good, but it isn’t €50 for a taxi to the airport. It’s €30 to €35.”

One more chimed in with: “Literally paid €30 for a taxi a few days ago, and straight to the door of the hotel.”

It’s clear people’s thoughts on the topic varied, but George claims the hack could help people save a lot of money, so it’s worth consdiering when on your travels.
