Chesney Hawkes was visibly emotional during his appearance on Thursday’s Good Morning Britain, as he discussed the recent loss of his best friend Vic.
In a conversation with hosts Susanna Reid and Ed Balls, the 53-year-old singer, known for his hit The One and Only, shared how he has been using music to cope with his grief.
Chesney had announced the sad news of Vic’s passing last month in a heartfelt social media post. He wrote at the time: “You may have noticed I’ve been a little off radar recently. Many of you will know that my best friend Vic has been ill recently. I know a lot of you have gotten to know and love him over the years.
“Well, I am heartbroken to say that Vic passed away on Thursday morning. He did so peacefully holding hands with his beautiful family. There are no words to describe the pain we all feel, but now is about coming together and supporting his wonderful family through this tragic time.
“This video of him in Prague a couple of years ago is one of our most treasured memories. A day we were all so happy he lived to see and experience as one of life’s biggest Hammers. I will share more about this great man as time goes on, but for now here he is in his element. xx”, reports the Manchester Evening News.
During his appearance on Good Morning Britain, Chesney became tearful while speaking about his late friend, apologising for shedding tears as he said: “My best friend literally just passed away.”
The singer, still reeling from the recent loss of his close friend, shared: “We had the funeral literally last week and so Vic, my lovely Vic.”
During the interview on Good Morning Britain, when clips of Chesney and Vic were shown, he was visibly moved, pausing to say: “Oh bless him” as he wiped away tears.
Susanna then stepped in as she said: “Oh it’s so hard, I’m so sorry Chesney!” Chesney recalled how he had known Vic since school days and he was his most trusted friend with the duo often crying to each other.
Chesney added that in a sweet circle of life, both his and Vic’s children have now become friends and they all have an “unbreakable bond”.
Good Morning Britain continues on weekdays at 6am on both ITV and ITV X.
