The daughter of murdered MP Sir David Amess has spoken out about being denied a full inquest into his death, highlighting “repeated failings” in the counter-terrorism system.
Three years after the Conservative MP was killed at his constituency surgery in Leigh-on-Sea, his family continues to seek answers about the circumstances surrounding his death.
Katie Amess criticised authorities for what she describes as attempts to “cover up” and “brush under the carpet” crucial information about the case.
The family maintains that significant failures in the anti-terror prevention scheme could have prevented the fatal attack.

Speaking to GB News, Amess said: “I mean, it’s just beyond stupidity. If it wasn’t for the media, we wouldn’t have even had a chance to get our stories out there. These are repeat failings that keep happening.
“Then the government and the police scramble to cover it up, they try and brush it under the carpet and hope you will go away. We’re not going to go away and we’re going to fight to get answers.”

She added: “I know what’s in that report because they sent it to me. I think probably about 18 months ago, I was made to sign a document to say I will not tell anybody what is in it.
“Otherwise, I will either go to prison or I will be fined a large amount of money. So I was silenced. Now all of a sudden, Southport happens three and a half years later and all of a sudden they can quickly release the Southport learning review and do an inquiry.
“Well, what about me and everybody else that this has happened to?
“You can’t pick and choose who you’re going to help, and they don’t want the report out because it’s going to embarrass them and it’s going to justify even more my calls for an inquiry when everybody sees the utter stupidity of the people running these organisations. “
Sir David Amess, 69, was stabbed 21 times by terrorist Ali Harbi Ali during a constituency surgery on 15 October 2021.
Ali, who was sentenced to a whole-life prison term in 2022, carried out the attack in retaliation against politicians who had voted to bomb Syria.
Evidence presented at the Old Bailey revealed Ali had been known to authorities and was referred to the government’s Prevent programme prior to the attack.
Despite this early warning, Ali continued to plot his attack in secret, raising serious questions about the effectiveness of the counter-terrorism prevention scheme.
In a similar incident, the Southport review revealed multiple failures in the Prevent programme’s handling of killer Axel Rudakubana, who was referred to counter-terrorism authorities three times.
Amess warned that failing to conduct an inquiry into her father’s death may have contributed to the recent attacks.
“Had we have done an inquiry three-and-a-half years ago when this happened to my father, perhaps these other atrocities wouldn’t have happened,” she stated.
