It’s “Seniors’ Day” for the Calgary Dinos basketball teams this weekend, as they get set to host Lethbridge for two games in the Jack Simpson Gym. Friday’s tip time for the women’s game is set for 6 p.m., while Saturday’s showdown is at 4 p.m.

With four games left to play, the Dinos sit in third place in the Canada West Prairie Division. Their 13-3 record is just one game back of Saskatchewan and Alberta (14-2). The Dinos have been on a roll in the second semester, going a perfect 8-0 since the winter break and have now won nine games in a row.

Calgary will wrap up the regular season next weekend with a pair of games at Regina.

Lethbridge sits at 8-8 in the Prairie Division after a sweep of Victoria last time out. Three Pronghorns are averaging double-digit scoring on the year, with second-year guard Courtney McKee leading the way with 12.0 ppg.

Calgary has lost just two games to their foes from the south in the past decade, falling by three and by one points in a weekend homestand in February 2022. Since those two losses, the Dinos are 4-0 against the ‘Horns, including an 85-46 win the last time these two teams faced off.

The Dinos look to close out the home portion of their regular season with two more wins as they get set to host Lethbridge this Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and 6 p.m., respectively, in the Jack Simpson Gym.

The Dinos overcame a hot shooting night by Brandon last time out to finish off the sweep of the Bobcats and move to 13-3 in the conference play  good for a tie with Winnipeg for the top spot in the Prairie Division with four games to play. Currently, Calgary holds the tiebreaker on the Wesmen. The Dinos moved back up to No. 2 in the nation in the latest U SPORTS rankings.

Calgary will close out the regular season next weekend with a pair of games at Regina.

Lethbridge comes to campus with a 10-6 conference record, currently sitting in fourth place in the Prairie Division. After four straight wins to start the new year, the ‘Horns were swept by top-ranked Victoria at home last weekend as they look to make a move at the top of the division leaderboard down the stretch.

Calgary is just 5-5 against Lethbridge in its last 10 meetings. The Dinos swept last year’s series at home to end a four-game skid against the ‘Horns, the longest successful stretch for Lethbridge in the series this century. Last year, Calgary won 99-77 and 90-84 in its two matches against the UofL.

The home schedule comes to a close for the Dinos women’s hockey team this weekend, with a home-and-home set against MacEwan. The Dinos head to Edmonton Friday before the Griffins come to Father David Bauer Arena Saturday. Saturday’s game will also serve as “Seniors’ Day” for the Dinos.

Calgary picked up a big win over then No. 5 Mount Royal with a 2-1 shootout win in front of a record-breaking crowd at the Scotiabank Saddledome last Friday in the Crowchild Classic. The Dinos head into the weekend with a 7-15-2 record and will finish out the 2024-25 season next weekend in Vancouver with a pair of games at UBC.

MacEwan holds a 4-17-3 mark with four games to play. Two more wins would match the most for the Griffins since joining Canada West back for the 2021-22 season. They close the regular season by hosting Regina next weekend.

This marks the first showdown between the provincial foes this season, as the schools sit in different divisions this year under a new scheduling format. Calgary is in the West Division while MacEwan is in the East.

The Dinos are 8-2 in the their last 10 against the Griffins, including going 3-1 in the series last season. The last meeting was way back on Jan. 6, 2024 — a 4-0 win for Calgary.

Following a thrilling 4-0 win over their city rivals inside the Scotiabank Saddledome on Friday as part of the annual Crowchild Classic, the Dinos now close the regular season with three of their last four at home. Calgary hosts MacEwan Friday at 7 p.m. as part of a weekend home-and-home, with Saturday’s game taking place in Edmonton.

The Dinos sit at 12-8-2 with four games to play. They’ve had a postseason berth sewn up for a few weeks now, but it seems likely they’re locked in at as the third seed in the West Division. The Dinos will close the regular season next weekend at home against UBC.

MacEwan enters the weekend at 9-12-3 for 21 points — currently good for third place in the East Division and five points clear of fourth-place Manitoba with four games to play. The Griffins have matched their program record for wins in a season since joining Canada West in 2021 and will look to add to that total against the Dinos and next weekend at Regina.

Calgary has never lost to MacEwan since they joined Canada West, going 11-0 over the past three seasons. This weekend marks the first and only showdown between the two programs this season. Last year, the Dinos won all four matchups by a combined score of 24-12, netting at least four goals in all four games.


Dinos Track & Field

The Dinos’ track & field teams are in action one final time before turning their attention to their championship meets, heading back to Edmonton’s Butterdome for the ninth annual Pandas Open.

The two-day university portion of the meet is scheduled to start Friday at 2 p.m., while Saturday’s action set to start at 11 a.m.

Calgary’s women’s team is building off last year’s strong finish at nationals. They’re once again ranked fourth in the latest U SPORTS rankings. Individually, the Dinos have a whopping 17 individuals (or relay squads) in the top 10 in the nation across all events — including multiple athletes ranked in the 60m, 300m, 60m hurdles, high jump and pentathlon.

Following this weekend’s meet, the Dinos have a week to prepare for the Canada West Track & Field Championships, hosted by Regina Feb. 21-22.
